That little girl…

Remember her,
That little girl,
Unable to stand
From a fall,
fragile
And weak,
Falling apart
No voice to
Speak.
Wearing a smile,
Not by choice,
Her deafening
silence
Became her
Voice.
Damage consumed
The little girl,
It’s all she’d known,
To hide
And cower,
At the evil
Life had thrown.
But the little girl
Discovered a way,
To hide behind masks,
She’d be ok.
Paying the price
She’d Suppress it all,
Blocking her pain
By building
A wall.
Fear reeled her in
she spat it back out,
Finding the courage
She learned
To shout.
Running far
And fast,
But this
Deception,
Would never
Last.
She’d managed
To cut
The connection,
But the shadows
Remember
Her true
reflection.
Wearing a mask
But she’s unable to hide
Because that silent
Screaming girl
Is still
Inside.

    That little girl,
    Has a small little pearl,
    Deep down inside,
    Not wanting to hide,
    It wants to burst out,
    It just wants to shout!
    “I’m Here,
    Can’t you see?”
“I just want to be me.”

Powerful piece Katrina. We can try to hide, but we are also what we are in the inside and sometimes we gave to face that to move forward. Great piece.

  9. This really evokes something parental in me. It’s a heartbreaking poem, beautifully written but makes me so angry.
