The monster you dread
Worst of nightmares,
A figure hiding
Under your bed.
It’s the storm within
The hurricane outside,
It’s the fear shivering
Under your skin.
Playing games
When it’s dark,
Leaving panic
Is its Mark,
The shadows creep
Across the walls,
It’s coming closer,
Do you hear its calls?
Sizing you up
You feel its stare?
Running its claws
Through your hair.
Fright slithers
To the core,
You Make a dash
To reach the door.
Feeling around
You find the light,
The monster vanishes
From your sight.
Sweat drips
From your palms,
Catching your breath
As you calm.
Dreading the horrors
That’ll come at night,
Trying to run from
The darkness
Into the light.

    Running it’s (its) claws

    An adventurous write.

I always love reading your pieces. They strike me as lyrical and I’m always so very engaged.

Can’t quite decide on this one … are you being mischievous or deadly serious … my instinct says the latter?

Great poem. Illustrates what fear we have of the dark or hints we cannot see clearly in life.

  7. Oooh I love it, the tension builds as the misters claws it’s way out. The way you layer this one out is gloriously devious. It really pulls you into the fears. Those short lines drag out all the tension the panic. I really enjoyed this β™₯
