Do you remember
Being you & free,
Building those sandcastles
Swimming in the sea.
Playing on our skates
And making dens
This was our fun,
We didn’t need
Technology back then.
Having no care in the world
We was running wild,
This is what it’s like
Being a child.
We’d climb to the top
Of every tree,
Go home filthy
With cuts on our knees.
The play times changed
as we grew old,
The bonds were formed
From the memories we hold.
To talk about a time
That brought us pleasure,
A grin appears
They’re ours to Treasure.

This is so very beautiful.

This was beautiful. I loved the times when I would play outside with my friends in the summer but now everyone’s glued to their phones and it isn’t as fun anymore 🙁

It is odd how many of us grownups miss these days and yet it is our kids who are not having them……

Exactly, my nephew prefers his tablet to climbing trees, and I wonder if he’ll miss that when he’s old x

Memories of a tech free childhood. I’m glad I have those.
A gorgeous rhyme and a gentle indictment of those tech savy kids who will never know the thrill of almost falling out of a tree only to catch yourself and decide to climb higher cause “why not”
Great piece!!

I know I did…. im not so sure about you…. only 22 but pretends she’s older 😋
Ah proper playtime, it’s been quite a while since I made a birds nest from freshly cut grass or ran away from imaginary dinosaurs.

Haha 22 thank you, I’m taking that one! Oh what about making dens, and collecting snails lol x

Of course you should, after 18 there’s no point in pretending to be older 😄
I still know where all my old dens are. I’m not sure I could get into them these days. Lots of tight spaces to traverse. Having them hidden was key.
Never done the snail collecting. I remember tadpoles though

That’s a good idea! I can’t wait to trick someone into having my children, there’s so much madness I have to pass on!!
